 Bravo and bravo!!!

Two back-to-back Lenten events were wonderfully undertaken by hard-working chairs and the hands of many dedicated volunteers. First was our annual Lenten Luncheon chaired by Vickie Lembesis. Vickie and her crew prepared a delicious meal. The food was donated by committee members and others so that the basket collection (which totaled almost $150) will be forwarded to Hellenic College/Holy Cross for their educational programs. Thank you Vickie for so willingly undertaking this event once again!

The following day was the Sunday of Orthodoxy. St. Sophia served as the host church for the area Orthodox clergymen and their parishioners. There was a beautiful Vespers followed by a Lenten reception. Thanks to our chairs Marcella Panza, Theodora Mokhiber, and "Teacher" Mary, the event was a tremendous success. As one parishioner stated, "It looked like a catered event!" The set up was beautiful and the array of Lenten dishes was amazing and wonderful. Someone else said that if this was Lenten food to please "bring it on!"

More importantly, this evening brought together members of our Philoptochos, members of our Parish Council and, even more special, several young people from our GOYA and JOY. These, the youngest of our volunteers, were an inspiration to all our volunteers and guests who watched as they worked diligently at each and every task to which they were assigned. Indeed, they are our hope for the future.

In regards to this evening, I would like to share some excerpts from a letter from Father Pat.

We, at St. Sophia, have always tried to set a high standard embracing the concept of filotimo (hospitality). The organization, service, set-up, clean-up, food, and overall spirit of the evening helped to restore my faith in the ability of our Philoptochos to take charge in an event and make it a success. The chairladies and their volunteers were impressive, dedicated to the task at hand, pleasant and cheerful. I was the recipient of many well wishes from our Brotherhood of St. Andrew clergymen as well as their parishioners, because of your dedication to the event. It is my hope and prayer that you...will continue to accept the challenges which the Church constantly beseeches the Ladies Philoptochos Society to undertake and help to inspire the ladies to give of their assets joyfully and in the spirit of Christ Jesus, Who willingly sacrificed His all to benefit mankind. I humbly thank you and the Ladies and wish for your continued success and leadership. In His Service, Fr. Pat

Thank you Father Pat for your kind words of encouragement.

Upcoming on April 1st, Maria Lembesis Sokaris and a small crew will be here to color two and a half cases of eggs (some 900 eggs give or take a few cracked ones) very early on Holy Thursday morning. If you would like to join in, please see Maria. Also, on Easter Sunday Philoptochos and the Parish Council will be hosting the annual Agape Fellowship. This is the day for the Sunday School Easter Egg Hunt and it is also the celebration of Father Pat’s nameday. If you would like to volunteer to assist at this fellowship, see me or Colleen Nelligan.

(Note: We have added an April meeting to our calendar. It will be on Tuesday, the 13th, starting at 6:30 p.m with light refreshments followed by our meeting.)

On behalf of all our Philoptochos members, we wish each and everyone Kali Anastasis!
