St. Sophia Greek Festival

         The St. Sophia Greek Festival is known for its exquisite food.  All the food is made by hand by members of our parish using authentic recipes from Greece. Greek dancers will dance in their native costumes while you dine at our Grecian Restaurant or in our tent.

Dolmadiakia

Vine leaves stuffed with rice

 
Tiropita

Triangles of paper thin glazed  phyllo pastry filled with feta cheese
 
Spanakopita

Baked spinach and feta cheese puffs in buttered phyllo pastry with egg, onion butter, olive oil, and bread crumbs

Roast Lamb

 California lamb prepared in the traditional Greek way with garlic and oregano

 
Souvlaki

Grilled marinated chunks of chicken or pork, served with tzatziki sauce,
 lettuce, tomatoes, onions, feta cheese on grilled pita bread.
 

Gyro

Thin slices of barbecued meat specially seasoned with herbs and spices, served with tomatoes and onions on pita bread, and topped with our special sauce

 
Roast Chicken

Greek style with garlic and oregano
 
MOUSSAKA

A baked delicacy prepared with sliced eggplant, ground beef, onions, tomatoes, butter, eggs, milk cheese, and seaonings
 
STEFATHO

Tender chunks of beef and whole stewing onions in a sweet and sour tomato sauce.
 
PASTITSIO

A Greek "lasagne." One of our all time favorite dishes combining macaroni, ground meat, cheese and covered with bechamel sauce

A tomato and cucumber salad seaoned with onion, olive oil, vinegar, feta cheese and oregano

Thirty or more nut filled, paper thin layers of glazed phyllo sheets of pastry soaked in pure honey make this the king of pastry desserts
 
Loukoumathes

Feathery light honey tokens or sweet fritters deep fried to a golden brown and dipped in boiling honey
 
Melomakarona

Honey cookies sprinkled with a spice-nut mixture
 
Koulourakia

Breaded butter cookies with a light sugar glaze
 
Kourambiedes

Sugar covered crescent shaped cakes that melt in one's mouth
 
Diples

Honey rolls so thin and flaky that they crumble when they are bitten
 
Kataife

A delicious pastry made of shredded phyllo rolled with nuts and honey and sprinkled with syrup
