LADIES PHILOPTOCHOS SOCIETY Good food, good company, good discussion! Our last meeting of the year was a cookout in the courtyard with Father Pat not only blessing the food but officiating at the grill. (How can you go wrong.) Hamburgers with all the fixings were provided and members brought a side dish or dessert for everyone to share which is always fun. If you missed this evening, look for our annual potluck supper which is held at the first meeting in September. Anyway, it was a nice turnout and a lovely evening to enjoy the outdoor courtyard. Thank you Father Pat and thank you ladies. It looks like we may be having several new members join us for the coming year which is excellent because we anticipate some new projects and fund raisers. Our first fund raiser will be a "Greek Café and Pastries" that we have been asked to sponsor for an Antique Doll Show scheduled here on Saturday, October 2nd. As another new fund raiser, we are looking to offer a "Greek Cooking Class". Over fifty people at the festival signed up to be contacted for a class featuring Greek recipes. At this point in time, the class will offer demonstrations and recipes from our own Philoptochos "Treasured Greek Recipes". The cookbook was first published in 1981 based on recipes submitted by the women of St. Sophia. It is now in it its 8th printing and has been shipped to more than half a dozen states across the country.Following supper, there was a short meeting and discussion of some topics of serious consideration. A questionnaire was distributed for members to take home to complete and return to the church office. If you were not at the meeting, you are invited to share your input on the attached questinnaire. And, finally on a fun note, there will be an "Aquaduck Tour of Albany" (and the Hudson River) on Saturday, July 24th leaving from St. Sophia at 11:00 A.M. The Daughters of Penelope and Philoptochos will be sponsoring this outing which is open for women only. Friends and family members are also welcome. After the two-hour journey hosted by fellow member Tacy Tunny, there will be a light lunch back here at the church. The cost is $25. See Cookie Patelos or call the church office for reservations. May you have a safe and lovely summer with happy memories to share in the fall. O Theos mazi sas! May God be with you and yours! Philoptochos Questionnaire: (click here)
