Well, ladies we have completed another full and successful year. Our philanthropic donations and assistance were far reaching, including but not limited to:

Men’s Rescue Mission
Women’s Rescue Mission
Leukemia Society
Scleroderma Foundation
Women’s Interfaith
Huntington’s Disease
Adopted Family for Christmas
Habitat for Humanity
Multiple Sclerosis

In addition to the above, we participated generously to our national Philoptochos obligations including:

St. Basil’s Academy
Holy Cross/Hellenic College
Cancer
Patriarchate
UNICEF
Social Services
St. Photios Shrine
Missions – IOCC
St. Michael’s Home
Presvyteras/Sisterhood

We also were there for the St. Sophia community:

St. Barbara’s Party for Children and Community
Vasilopita
Sunday of Orthodoxy Vespers Fellowship
Lenten Luncheon
Epitaphio Flower Collection and Decoration
Easter Egg and Palm Preparation
Agape Service Fellowship

In addition to the above:

Preparation and Serving of Repast Luncheons after funerals for parishioners;
Visitation to Hospitals, Nursing Homes and Shut-Ins;
Breast Cancer Awareness Walk in Washington Park;
Presentation of Advance Directives (e.g. Living Wills and Health Care Proxy)

We also enhanced and reprinted our cookbook Greek Treasures. We were featured in the local paper, Times Union, for this great cookbook. The sales are going very well and our reputation through this publication is noticed by the community at large.

At our June 10th end-of-the-year meeting our ladies discussed and voted:

A committee was formed re: Long-Range Mission and Philanthropic endeavors to be presented for recommendation at our Fall meeting;
Purchase of school supplies and back-pack for each student at St. Basil’s Academy to be given shortly after Labor Day.

I take this opportunity to thank the Philoptochos Board who provided and served a buffet dinner at the June 10th meeting.

The Philoptochos Board will be working on the upcoming season’s calendar this summer which will include most of the above, a Fashion Show, Garage Sale/Bake Sale, a dinner commemorating our 80th Anniversary, and so much more.

Speaking of the above, our Garage Sale/Bake Sale was again a huge success. Our profit will ensure our generous giving to the above-mentioned charities and philanthropic organizations.
