For your convenience we have included a 2008 Commitment Card in this issue.

WELCOME NEW MEMBERS

Let us cordially welcome the following new members to the St. Sophia community. Please do not hesitate to greet our new members and offer any assistance and/or information regarding the community and its organizations and programs:
Frederick, Angelica, Sarah, Frederick & Ted Bauer

ATTEND CHURCH
During the summer months while the Sunday School is in recess, it is a great opportunity for our parishioners to attend services as a family with your children at your side.

CHURCH PICNIC  August 24th
Mark your calenders for Sunday, August 24th. Following the Divine Liturgy, the parish council is sponsoring a picnic here on the St. Sophia’s grounds. Bring your lawn chairs, sports equipment and appetites so we can enjoy a family-fun afternoon.

CHURCH ARCHIVES &LIBRARY
Kudos to Dr. Kendris. His reputation for the Archives & Library are far reaching. He recently received an e-mail from the Parish Historian of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Canton, Ohio, who is preparing a publication for the centennial celebration of the founding of its parish and the spread of Greek Orthodoxy in northeast Ohio.. The e-mail read in part: I enjoy so much the web site that you and your dear wife put together on the history of St. Sophia. I have showed it to the leaders of our parish as an example of what is possible. I think it is unlikely that we can approach it in quality and user-friendliness. You two have set the bar very high for the rest of us. Thank you for your assistance, which will be duly noted in our publication.

Let us not take for granted this valuable asset. Dr. Kendris and his late wife Yolanda have put together a remarkable collection of books and photographs. Take the time to visit the Church Archives and Library. If you have any books or photographs you would like to donate to the collection, please see Dr. Kendris.

FYI
PANHELLENIC SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION

Continuing its goal to promote education to our youth, the Foundation will again award Scholarship Grants of $10,000 each this fall. Their mission is to facilitate the development of Greek-American students into outstanding citizens through the support and advancement of their education. The scholarship grants are available to all U.S. high school graduates and university students of Hellenic descent. Applicants’ scholastic records will constitute the basis for selection while their financial need will be seriously considered. The goal this year is to grant $250,000 to 25 worthy students. More information and applications are available at www.panhellenicscholarships.org.
