LADIES PHILOPTOCHOS SOCIETY
Join us for the Journey through Pascha. It begins on March 10th with Great Lent. Mark your calendar to attend on March 15th, Saturday of Souls, as Philoptochos is sponsoring the Lenten Luncheon hosted by Vickie Lembesis and her committee.
Many flowers will be needed to decorate the Kouvouklion (also known as the Epitaphio), since this is the crypt of Jesus Christ. Please be generous with your donations. Dolores Bachandouris has always done a phenomenal job collecting, and her first Sunday is March 16th. If there is anyone who wants to mail in a donation, please do so.
I would like to thank Vickie Lembesis and Dora Mokhiber and their committee who last month collected for the St. Photios Shrine. Do you know the Shrine is in St. Augustine, Florida and it commemorates the arrival of the first Greek settlers to the New World in 1768?
On Sunday, March 16th, please remember to bring an icon of your choice to celebrate Sunday of Orthodoxy (return of the icons). Also, join us for the beautiful evening Vespers here at St. Sophia which will be followed by a lenten buffet. This is an evening when all our Eastern Orthodox churches are called together to celebrate the first Sunday of Lent. Margaret Danes and her committee will be requesting lenten food donations.
Our Garage Sale & Bake Sale will be held on Saturday, April 12th from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m., with Sneak preview 9 a.m. - 10 a.m. with a $5 donation. For all those Clean Sweep addicts, it’s your time to shine. Clean out your attics, garages, cabinets, and basements. Marcella wants it, and needs it! Donations for the Garage Sale will be accepted starting Monday, March 24th.
We will also need our bakers to get their Treasured Greek Cookbooks to start baking. Dora Mokhiber and her committee will be calling on you for the great Greek pastries that everyone asks for.
Last but not least, April 5th let us support our Greek Buffet sponsored by St. Sophia. At this time Philoptochos will be demonstrating quick and easy appetizers, e.g., Saganaki. Our Greek cookbooks will be on sale that day, cost is $15.
Ladies, if you have not paid your 2008 dues, please do so or see Margaret Danes.
